Continued volume growth in the Financial Market

Despite closures of a number of energy trading companies in the European power market, the Financial Market at Nord Pool has continued to grow this year. Through week 45 close to 924 TWh has been traded, which represents a 17% increase compared with the corresponding period last year. The market share of the overall volumes cleared by NECH has been about 34%, which is slightly more than last year. Volatility, and in particular overall price-shifts, have been considerable in the past few months as the underlying fundamentals have changed significantly in response to the current deficit in the hydro power balance compared to historical averages.
